About Dutiable

Dutiable is a free reference and toolkit for people who move goods across borders: small e-commerce sellers, Amazon and Etsy shops, first-time importers and the freight forwarders who help them. It answers the questions that come up before every shipment — which HS code a product falls under, what duty it pays in the US, EU or UK, and what the parcel will really cost once it lands.

Who builds it

Dutiable is built and maintained by Dawid, an independent developer who makes small web tools for online sellers. It started from the same frustration many sellers share: official tariff schedules are accurate but hard to search, and most "HS code finder" sites either hide the rate behind a sign-up or give a six-digit code with no explanation of why it applies.

Where the data comes from

  • US duty rates from the USITC Harmonized Tariff Schedule.
  • EU rates from the European Commission's TARIC database.
  • UK rates from the UK Global Tariff published by HMRC.
  • Section 301 and Section 232 actions from USTR notices and the Federal Register.

Rates are re-synced every week. When a rate changes, the change is recorded in the public tariff tracker with its date and source, so you can see what moved and when.

How classification suggestions work

The HS code lookup uses an AI model to suggest a heading from a plain product description, then checks the suggestion against the official schedules and shows a confidence score. The product reference pages are written and reviewed by hand, explain the classification rule that applies and point out the variants that move a product into a different code.

Why it is free

There are no accounts and no paid plans. Reference pages, guides and the glossary carry a small number of Google ads, which pay for hosting and data syncs. The tools themselves show no ads.

A note on accuracy

Everything here is informational. Customs authorities make the final call on classification; for high-value or disputed goods, ask for a binding ruling or work with a licensed customs broker. If you spot a wrong code or rate, tell us — corrections are usually live within a day.
