Classification Notes

Bicycle drive chains (for derailleur and single-speed drivetrains) are roller chains classified under 7315.11. Speed designations (8-speed, 11-speed, 12-speed) refer to chain width but do not affect the HS code. Stainless steel bicycle chains are still 7315.11. E-bike chains for high-torque applications remain in the same heading. The master link (quick-link connector) is a chain component and part of the same classification when sold with the chain. Motorcycle chains are also 7315.11. Log chains and load chains for lifting are 7315.89. Note 4 to Section XV clarifies that chain is not classified with the machine it drives.
