Classification Notes

Pedal-assist electric bicycles (pedelecs) where the motor assists only when pedalling are classified under 8714.99 in the EU and UK. The EU distinguishes pedelecs (up to 250W, max assist speed 25 km/h) from speed pedelecs and throttle e-bikes — higher-power models may be re-classified as mopeds (8711). Anti-dumping duties on e-bikes from China are in effect in the EU: always check the current ADD/CVD Regulation before importing. The battery pack is an integral part of the e-bike and is classified with it. A separate replacement battery is 8507.60.
