Corrugated cardboard shipping boxes are classified under 4819.10. Folding cartons (printed retail boxes) not of corrugated board are 4819.20. Paper bags and sacks are 4819.30 or 4819.40 by size. Cardboard boxes with no packaging function (e.g. decorative gift boxes) may fall under Chapter 66 or as other manufactured articles. Recycled cardboard boxes are classified identically to virgin material boxes. The printing on the box (branding, barcodes) does not change the classification. Food packaging must meet food-contact material regulations in the destination country.
